Ph.D. Studentship National Biophotonics and Imaging Platform Ireland (NBIPI)
May 21, 2008
A Ph.D. Studentship is available in the Department of Physiology funded through the National Biophotonics and Imaging Platform Ireland (NBIPI).
We are interested in hearing from highly-motivated and enthusiastic science graduates who wish to pursue a Ph.D., and a career, in biomedical sciences, apoptosis research and molecular imaging. The successful candidate will get to work in highly stimulating, Science Foundation Ireland- and EU-funded laboratory interested in identifying cell death and cell survival pathways in cancer cells and neurons.
The postgraduate students will be enrolled in a structured Ph.D. program at the RCSI, and will receive additional training in biophotonics and imaging via the NBIPI training program [please find more details on the NBIPI Educational Programme at http://www.nbipireland.ie/]
Project: The project will analyse the activation and interaction kinetics of cell death-inducing and cell death-antagonising Bcl-2 family proteins during stress-induced apoptosis. Tedhniques employed will include state-of-the-art confocal GFP imaging and FRET analysis, high content analysis platforms, and molecular biology approaches. The day-to-day supervision is supported by the Director of Molecular Imaging and the Laboratory manager.
