Postdoctoral Fellow Allergy-Immunology Hannover/Postdoktorandenstelle Allergie-Immunologie Hannover (Hannover)
January 12, 2008
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in the junior research group (Nachwuchsgruppe) of the collaborative research center for „Immune reactions of the lung in infectious and allergic diseases“ (SFB 587: http://www.mh-hannover.de/termine0.html) at the medical University of Hannover, Germany.
We are looking for an enthusiastic scientist who would like to benefit from an attractive scientific environment and the excitement within a young research group. The position is part of new a research project within the above collaborative research center funded by the German Science Foundation, the future PI is returned from the laboratory of Kim Bottomly at the Yale University, USA in August 2007.
Succesful candidates will study polysensitization in a mouse model of allergic airway disease. Recent evidence suggests that a pre-existing allergic inflammation in the lung lowers the threshold for subsequent allergic sensitizations (Eisenbarth et. al., J Immunol. 2004, 172:4527-4534), however the mechanisms of this phenomenon have not been thoroughly elucidated. The project will involve studying the mechanism of action of IL-4 in this context, e.g. cell types and mediators involved, the possible role of other types of pulmonary inflammation on subsequent sensitization and the possible interplay of gastrointestinal inflammation and allergy and pulmonary sensitization.
Requirements: Doctoral degree in biology, biochemistry or related life sciences. Experience with standard techniques of biochemistry, cell culture and molecular biology are expected, as well as the willingness to work with animals. Experience with animal work is highly desirable, as is an expertise in flow cytometry.
Applications should include a detailed CV including abstracts of diploma/master and PhD thesis, a description of research experience and interests, methodologies used, a list of two potential references and if applicable a list of publications. Applications via e-mail are preferred. For attachements please include your family name and initials into the file name.
The position is available for 3 years initially, starting immediately, interviews with suitable candidates will be during the last weeks of February in Hannover.
Application should be e-mailed to
