PhD Studentships in Display Materials and Polymer Processing
Applications are now invited from suitable candidates from the UK or other E.U. countries for five PhD positions. Candidates will have at least a 2.1 class degree in materials science, engineering, physics or chemistry
Three of the PhD positions are in the field of Phosphors and display materials. They involve the synthesis and characterisation of new display materials. Two of these are tied to Technology Programmes with industry and the other is for fundamental studies.
Two PhD positions are in the field of polymer processing. One is tied to a Technology programme with industry, and the other (EPSRC) is for fundamental studies.
The Wolfson Centre for Materials Processing is not only unique in the UK but in fact there is none like it in the western world. The overall aim of current focused research is to contribute to the development of the science and technology of manufacturing processes that produce solids, semi-solids and liquids exhibiting specified compositions and microstructures, throughout the volume of the finished product, as required to impart optimum physical properties.
In the case of the polymer processing these processes are based largely on the controlled application of new mixing concepts and of macroscopic shears and pressure profiles to study materials.
Candidates should send a curiculum vitae, together with names and addresses of two referees (at least one academic) to Profs. J Silver and R. Withnall (e-mail: Jack.Silver@brunel.ac.uk , Robert.Withnall@brunel.ac.uk) by Tuesday 19th February, 2008.
