PhD Research Studentship
Detecting and preventing financial abuse of older adults:
An examination of decision-making by managers and professionals in health, social care, banking and asset management.
This is an exciting opportunity to be involved in a high quality, multi-disciplinary research project which is being funded by the cross-council New Dynamics of Ageing programme. The project abstract and full proposal can be viewed abstract and full proposal
A high calibre applicant is required to join the project team to undertake a full-time PhD on the topic of financial abuse of older adults. The successful candidate may also be asked to teach for up to 150 hours per academic year. The student will be supervised by Dr Priscilla Harries and Professor Daniel Reidpath with Professor Mary Gilhooly as overall Director of the research project.
The successful applicant will be given a bursary of £8,500 per annum plus full home/EU tuition fees for up to three years.
Applicants should meet the following criteria:
Essential
· A minimum of a high 2:1 or first class degree in a relevant human sciences subject.
· Excellent skills in statistics.
· Excellent ability to learn to use computers/software to develop and test decision scenarios.
· Excellent writing skills.
· Ability to integrate interdisciplinary topics.
· Very high motivation
· Excellent communication skills.
Desirable
· A Masters in health psychology or relevant discipline
· Experience in decision-making research
· Experience in research with older adults
· Experience of planning, conducting and analysing in-depth interviews.
